I spotted this book awhile ago at Anthropologie (they always seem to have the best book picks). It sounded like a keeper, promising and inspiring which is my type of deal. And boy oh boy. Yes.It.Is.
Written by a very well known name in the advertising world Paul Arden, this book is an organized assortment of life anecdotes cleverly written in advertising lingo. But you understand each and every word right off the bat. How you ask? Well, our life is basically a lengthy advertisement don't ya think?
You want the best ideas. You want to be excellent at what you do. You want to be creative. You wish you had created the idea that was something genius. You wish you were always right. All of these or at the very least a few of these, are behaviors you want to portray. You want to sell yourself in this fashion. You want your life to be the best it can be. I'm guilty of this at times, wishing for all of this but not really trying or better yet, I keep on trying the same tactics, hoping a miracle will shine down upon me. Let me just tell you, a miracle will not happen. Just plain disappointment. Oh, and you might start to feel boring.
This book gives it to you real straight: life shouldn't consists of the same steps. You fail? Good. Try a different way. Fail? Good. Try something different again. And the cycle continues and continues and continues until you reach your success. Your epitome of finally finding that life fulfilling self-satisfaction. The flow of life you always dreamed of- you get the picture.
I love how this book is told within advertising situations. Not only do you imagine yourself acting within each role, but you indulge and soak in the information instantly. It's like a life hacks version of advertising knowledge. Point is people, read this book if you keep on doing the same thing over and over and nothing seems to be working. It'll open up your perspective, kind of like a wake-up call.
"There is nothing that is a more certain sign of insanity than to do the same thing over and over and expect the results to be different." - Albert Einstein
Keep trying something different people. Good luck, and happy weekend to you.
